Guest Bedroom Ideas

Other than sharing the wall paint color in this room, which is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, I don’t think I’ve ever done a complete post on our guest room.

When we first moved to this house from New York, the guest bedroom became the room where all our furniture and art which didn’t fit into the new lay out went.

Over time, I’ve edited this space quite a bit to make it feel more inviting and comfortable for our guests.

When it comes to a guest bedroom, the less is more approach is the way to go.

I’ve also got some great ideas on what should go into your guest bedroom.

What should you have in a guest bedroom?

A quality bed is the best place to start.

It doesn’t need to be anything fancy.

We went with a simple metal bed frame and added an upholstered headboard from Ballard Design.

A decent mattress is also a must, especially since our guests are mostly our parents or inlaws.

Soft, comfortable bedding.

Great bedding is SO important.

However, it doesn’t need to be expensive.

Having tried both high end and affordable linens, I know for a fact you don’t need to spend a lot on your bedding.

My favorite go-to sheets set these days is this one from Amazon.

These are SO soft, wrinkle resistant and they wash so perfectly.

Plus, I’ve gotten great feedback from guests!

Extra Towels and Linens are a great guest bedroom idea.

I like to keep the adjoining guest bathroom well stocked with these towels.

Not only is this thoughtful, but it will ultimately save you time once your guests arrive.

The same goes for toiletries.

Just in case, it’s also nice to stock the guest room or guest bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand lotion and tooth paste.

Create a space for a suitcase or two.

We have two x benches at the foot of the bed in the guest bedroom.

Not only does this look nice but it provides a great place for guests to rest suitcases to unpack and pack.

This post has even more foot of the bed furniture ideas.

Lighting

It’s nice to have lighting options.

Especially next to the bed.

Since my mom is our most frequent guest and I know she likes to read at night, I made to sure to have lights near the bed and also near a comfy reading chair.

Which brings me to next guest bedroom idea…

Seating

If you’ve ever stayed in a room where sitting on the bed is the only option, you know this is not ideal.

We have the most comfortable big lounge chair with an ottoman in our guest room, but honestly any type of extra seating will do.

Thoughtful Extras

With fresh new linens and toiletries in place, I decided to add this cozy, chunky knitted throw to the guest room.

A throw blanket ups the cozy factor and comes in handy on cold nights.

I also thought it would be nice to add a light and lovely scent to the air.

This clever Nest Diffuser (in the Bamboo scent) did the trick!

Last, but not least I added some fresh flowers and gave the room a thorough cleaning!

Done and dusted:)

Guest Bedroom Ideas Conclusion

I hope you found all these tips helpful.

When coming up with ideas on what to include in our guest bedroom, we not only tried to put ourselves in our guest’s shoes, but we also drew from past positive experiences at top hotels.

Sometimes it’s the little, thoughtful things which can make a big difference!
