In Be Tween

This is my oldest daughter’s bedroom. The thought of making good on my promise to update it is making me feel so sentimental. I poured my heart into this room… designed at the time I was pregnant with my second child, and feeling so guilty because I was uprooting my then two year old daughter out of her nursery to move her here. But, now she is eleven… a young lady with tastes all her own. Below is the inspiration photo she chose, and some of the items we will be ordering to achieve this goal. We will be keeping the walls green and adding a lot of blue. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Ikea light

  1. My best advice….do NOT buy expensive sheets for a teen girls room! Everything else looks great and she's gonna love it!

  2. Oh Sue, this is going to be a fun project. And I can see that your daugther has great taste and knows exactly what she likes (just like her Mama!).

I look forward to following this project! (And I can need some inspiration for my 9 year old).

    Warm hugs to you,

    Mon

Your daughter has great taste! I love the inspiration room & all the items you have picked out. It's going to be gorgeous!

The first room is beautiful as well, my 3-yr-old would love it, as she's a girl who loves pink, flowers, princesses & all things girly!

  6. First of all the existing room is so very pretty! If the walls are going to be all white like the inspiration room, that would be very cool because the accent colors can change anytime. Hopefully they won't change as fast as our children grow, but as least it's adaptable. Isn't that what parenting is all about?! Love it all 🙂

  8. Sue,
I'm cracking up over here…I just bought that lighting fixture two weeks ago (when I went to Ikea for the "library" in the playroom! I'm going to hand the fixture in my daughter's walk-in closet…it's fun, youthful and looks fab! Love the new direction and take lots of photos of her "old" room. I get the whole heart and soul thing!

  9. What a sweet room. Recently I was visiting a friend whose daughter has a similarly sweet room, and wants to redo her as well. She too loves turquoise and wants more room to hang out. I had so much fun brainstorming for ideas with her, it's actually inspired my own studio/office redo. I love the chair from Ikea and the mirror from Target, thanks for sharing.

  13. I know how hard it is to let the little stage go…maybe that's why it's taking me so long to complete my little one's new room. I don't want to admit she's no longer a baby…my baby.

But the inspiration pic is gorgeous, and the items you've chosen are going to be so glam and perfect. Just think, the cooler her room, the more she'll want to be home!!

Oh I know the feeling. I was incredibly sentimental when my lil diva wanted her room revamped when she entered the double digits. (She is now turning 12). Although it was sad letting go of the princessy theme, it was fun picking and choosing with her the style she ended up with…a Travel Tres Chic room. Turned out beautiful, and it is the envy of many of her friends. Have fun!

It is so hard when they grow up. But remember: kids only usually have three bedrooms. A nursery, a little kids room, and an older room. I would save all the nice furniture, maybe just for sentimental reasons. You could go to Aunt Peaches and learn how to make a round light fixture out of coffee filters or cupcake papers. Velvet and Linen just let her daughter re-do her bedroom. When we moved out of NYC I let my nine year old daughter pick out almost everything for her bedroom. She loved it, (I didn't) and never wore shoes in her room. Tag sale season is coming up, so you could probably get that same end table in the inspiration picture. Good Luck, Ann
