Give Me Shelter

This nautical map made from Spanish tiles in this Shelter Island, New York kitchen stopped me in my tracks.  A tribute to the homeowner’s love for the sea. If I’m ever lucky enough to own a beach house, I would love to recreate this entire room…hook, line and sink!

  1. Love, love, love this and especially in a home that is not a primary residence (you can push boundaries a tad more.) I'm wondering if the cabintery is Viking's St. Charles? (That's what we have.) I love that the homeowners personalized their space – great space!

The map is neat too, but you would certainly have to be dedicated to go for it.

  17. I love when homeowners do original and interesting things in their personal spaces. There was a time there when kitchens started to look all the same. But this is great fun and lovely to look at too.
Anxiously awaiting your beach house do, btw 😉

The tiling seems so fitting for the location of the house, and I love that the rest of the kitchen is kept simple so as not to compete with the tile. Very, very lovely.

  32. Wow, spectacular….Cannot believe that is tile! I love a more modern look for a beach house too. My husband and I always say we are going to buy a beach house in Australia (he's Australian) when the exchange rate gets back to a certain point….unfortunately, in the last several months the AUD is actually stronger than the dollar….darned our economy!
