Gorgeous Ideas For Using Color and Pattern in Your Home’s Decor

This cheerful home designed by Summer Thornton brightened my whole day. If you enjoy seeing interiors with creative use of color and pattern, you’re going to be so inspired by this one!

Periwinkle blue with beige gingham checked walls, bold aqua paisley meets bright red velvet… all these design elements manage to work together here so perfectly. There’s a lot to love in this Wisconsin home.

The trick here is to make it all look cohesive. It’s easy to understand how to do this if you break it down. Let’s consider the image above. The gingham print on the wall is in a neutral, so this part is easy. Neutrals by their nature, go with everything. The periwinkle sofa is a solid and then this same lovely color gets picked up again in the prints on the pillows and in the vintage botanical art.

Examining how the patterns and colors connect to each other is important. Once you understand the way these pieces tie together and compliment each other it gets easier to tackle larger spaces in the same manner.

Here’s another great example of Summer’s beautiful ability to mix prints with color.

Finally, I found some great sources for getting this specific look in your own home. Scroll through to the bottom of this post to see the pieces.
