The “un” Bookcase

The Sapien bookcase has been on the design scene for quite some time, but it’s only recently that it crept from somewhere in the back of my subconscious to the forefront of my latest “wants” list.  I’m sure seeing it styled at Lonny Magazine’s associate market editor Ellie Somerville’s chic apartment, in the beautiful Hampton’s home of designer Laura Day, and then finally in Lonny Editor in Chief, Michelle Adam’s stylish pad had a lot to do with this.  I’m thinking that the black and white master bedroom in our ski condo could use a dash of color as well as some height from a vertical piece.  What do you think of this artful way to display your books?

  2. Bookcases can take up a lot of room so this is a great way to display your favorite reads without taking up much space. I think it's a great idea!

  3. Wow – something that actually organizes my stack of books that's acting as as bedside table! Very cool!

  9. I love the Sapien bookcase! I first saw it on a tv show and immediately googled it because it is just so awesome. Perfect for small-ish spaces where you can't fit a bookcase!

The stack of books by my bedside looks a lot like this — with no Sapien book case to make it seem intentional and chic! I think I do need one!

  16. I've never seen this before but I love it! It would prevent me from doing the terrible stacking books horizontally on books that are vertical.

  21. I've always loved this look. When we first moved into our home, there were two tall niches on either side of the fireplace and I stacked books vertically in each. It was a very cool look, but obviously not as safe with a kiddo around!

    Do it!

  29. LOL–I have 4 full size Sapiens and 1 shortish one. For a cluttered house like ours they are the best. I love your site. Thanks for the ski house inspiration/aspiration :-)~~~
