Talking about some great looking classic sweater options for women today.
It’s officially sweater weather in Connecticut…
5 Chic and Classic Sweater Options For Women
So today I thought I’d feature a few classic sweater options for women.
I’ve recently taken out my sweaters and assessed what I’m keeping and what needs to go (I found a giant hole in a long loved sweater, really hoping it’s just from a snag or pull!)
Have you gone through the sweaters in your closet yet?
Now I’m looking to add a couple more new sweaters to my collection for the colder months ahead.
It’s always nice to mix things up with my fall and winter uniform.
What makes a sweater a classic?
In addition to fit and price, it’s important my sweaters feel good.
I’m SO over trying to make wooly, bulky and often acrylic blend sweaters work!
No more itchy sweaters!
I’m all about investing in a few quality super soft cashmere or cashmere blends and not having to worry about what to wear underneath.
Although there is something to be said about a some great layering pieces.
Which is why I love cardigans so much.
If you love the layered look of the oversized sweaters in the photo above, the style of pullover sweater Irina Linovich is wearing is by ROKH (and her sunglasses are Celine).
Her whole outfit is SO chic and eye catching, don’t you think?
I’m just not sure how a look like this would work (and feel) under a coat or jacket…a major consideration here in New England.
I feel the same way about all the cute, long duster cardigans…I love the look, but how do they work under shorter coats?
Finally, I think I’m on the fence when it comes to a very chunky knit these days.
But I digress…
Let’s have a look at these classic sweaters for women…
Starting with my favorite, solid colors – or more specifically – neutral colors, like this cashmere sweater below.
Women’s Sweaters
The Cardigan
Cashmere open front cardigan (and the best part, it has pockets.)
Classic Stripes
striped wool and cotton sweater
This sweater by Toteme (above) is a splurge piece.
I bought mine last year and wore it SO many times I actually just purchased it again in another colorway this fall season.
Needless to say it’s my favorite sweater.
It goes with SO many things.
For instance, it’s a great way to get more mileage out of your skinny jeans and black leggings.
While I typically don’t gravitate towards wool sweaters, this one is not itchy at all.
If you’re more into a classic styles like a crew neck, this striped cashmere sweater is a fabulous option.
And this one from Madewell has a similar look with its relaxed fit and a great price point.
A Classic V-neck sweater
Cashmere relaxed V-neck sweater
One of the best fall sweaters to throw on and look chic is a v-neck.
When it comes to sweater styles, or types of sweaters, everyone should own this type of sweater, due to it’s flattering, neck elongating cut.
Wear it alone, on top of a camisole or with added layers when it gets very cold.
Pair a collared shirt with a v-neck style of sweater with favorite jeans for an easy outfit idea which can take you right through the cooler months.
A lightweight sweater
A simple sweater that’s easy to throw on and makes you feel good is a great piece to have on hand.
I already own this stylish mock neck sweater in black and love it so much I just ordered it in oatmeal.
A sweater vest
When it comes to a sweater vest, I prefer a bit of an oversized look.
However, I don’t want to look sloppy.
So I like to rely on the queen of layering, Veronica Beard, to do the work for me (behind the seams…)
Conclusion
Hope you loved all of these sweater picks.
Whether it’s a classic look or a casual style you’re interested in, I hope you enjoyed all of these sweater outfits and ideas today.

Real wool is itchy. Layer a T-shirt underneath.
Re the long cardigans, when I worked in an office, one desk drawer was for heels and another was for sweaters. So one option is to keep your dramatic duster at work. But I also have several mid-calf coats (keep those knees warm!), and a long cardigan won’t stick out the bottom.
So true! I don’t tend to wear longer coats anymore, because I drive SO much! Life in the suburbs. Great ideas, thanks so much! XX
In Virginia and further down south, wool is a deal breaker many times. I buy wool sweaters and then hardly wear them, it only gets cold enough for them a couple weeks a year.
