The Best Books To Read This Summer:
Like many of you, I tend to read a lot more in the summer.
For the past few years I’ve done a round up of books I’m planning on reading or books I have read and highly recommend.
You can see last summer’s list here.
From last summer’s book list, The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolizter -is by far my favorite.
I almost didn’t do a new list this summer because I wasn’t reading anything great AND I wasn’t reading as much as I used to in past summers…
However, I just bought myself a new Kindle Paperwhite during Amazon Prime Day, and I’m loving it!
It makes taking books to the beach so easy (obviously) and what’s even better – I can adjust the text and don’t need to use readers!
I also love the immediacy of just ordering a book to the device.
So, I’m happy to report I’m reading again!
Here’s what I’m reading and or planning to read this summer…
1.Save Me the Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl I’m halfway through this and LOVING it. Even though I don’t really enjoy cooking, reading about Ruth’s legendary career at Gourmet Magazine is so inspiring – I’m considering trying out some of the recipes she has included in this delightful book.
2.Three Women by Lisa Taddeo A good friend of mine just started reading this (next to me on the beach no less…) my curiosity is now piqued.
3. Fleishman Is In Trouble: A Novel by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. After hearing the author talk on a couple of podcasts, I immediately bought this book. I’m only a few pages in, so far it’s very good.
4. My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress by Rachel DeLoache Williams. If you’re like me and can’t get enough of this crazy story (which first appeared here) then this book is for you!
5. Trick Mirror: Reflections On Self Delusion by Jia Tolentino. I’m already familiar with the author’s writing from the New Yorker, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to really enjoy this book of essays.
**updated to add I’ve now finished ALL five of these books and stand by them!

Getting the Paperwhite made reading so much easier for me. It’s light, so my arthritic hands can actually read for a longer amount of time without hurting. And (this sounds silly), I can read without having to turn my body from one side to the next like I would do if I read a paperback. I still read both, of course, but I enjoy the heck out of my Paperwhite. Love reading it at night too! I’m intrigued by Three Women but I’ve heard so many mixed reviews about it. I’ll give it a little more time before I add it for sure to by TBR list.
