master closet before and after

Today I’m excited to share my master closet before and after images with you.

I’ve talked about my master closet before (here and here) but now that’s it’s completely finished I thought I’d dedicate a full post to it.

The after photo below, really helps to drive home the impact that paint alone can have.

You can find my favorite white paint colors here.

Just like the decision to paint over the dark cabinets in our butler’s pantry, I knew when I first came to look at this house,  I’d opt to paint all the dark wood bright white.

With the help of Muse Interiors, I was able to transform this large yet dark closet into my ultimate dream closet.

The old center island piece was the first thing to go, it just wasn’t practical for me. The taller part I now use under one of the hanging spaces on the left side.

This smart tweak actually gave me a small dresser area.

The floors were stained a deep dark walnut, the same as the rest of the house.

I always wanted to wallpaper a closet ceiling, and finally got to do it!

The fabric on the window seat was swapped out, it’s on the source list below. Hardware was changed out.

Got a brand new light fixture as well.

I went with simple plantation shutters on the windows and added a few throw pillows.

The final touches are the gray area rug, which has a hint of metallic thread in it and the tufted velvet ottoman, which serves as a catchall when I’m getting dressed or packing.

After years of pinning beautiful closets, I’m beyond thrilled with the final outcome.

Great closet!! I'm wondering how do you get a smooth finish on the ceiling before you wallpaper it? Do you have to put a skim coat of plaster on it first?

    Thanks so much

  3. Now YOUR closet will be pinned as a "dream closet" Sue! Divine! Having only a small walk in that I share with my husband, I have to say that this makes me giddy. I would be so thrilled to have a closet this spacious one day! (next house…. I hope!)

Love the touch of the little brass knobs, too!

Gor-jus! I'm so jealous! I think it was smart to remove the middle island. Love the idea of a simple ottoman instead–good move.
