Weekend Wrap Up

Happy Friday! Like most people I know, we’ve all had ENOUGH of this severe, crazy late winter weather. Spring can not get here soon enough! Luckily we have a few warm weather trips coming up. Fingers crossed our flights don’t get cancelled next week…until then I’ll be packing and checking all the weather apps!

Progress On Our Finished Attic

Update on the progress of our finished attic

Today I thought I’d talk about all the design progress we’ve made on our finished attic. I’ve been sharing a lot of this process on Instagram stories. However, in case you missed it, I thought I’d document it here as well.

I’ve also included a couple of “before” shots of this room.

When we moved here a few years ago, a lot of our old furniture just got transplanted up here. This happened regardless if it looked good or functioned well.

Our prior home had a finished basement and a room we called “the homework” room (which was a “bonus” room over the garage).

Both of these spaces were where our kids would hang out with their friends or work on larger school projects.

But, here in this house, our basement is unfinished and there’s no real other kid dedicated space beside their own bedrooms.

Keeping the third floor as the island of misfit furniture didn’t make it very inviting.

I knew we had to zhush this space to make it work as a hang out room for the kids.

Getting Started With the Design

For over a year I contemplated doing this on my own. I knew I wanted to paint the room white (it’s now Benjamin Moore OC – 151 White) give it a modern look, with a large round light pendant and also incorporate a full wall of bookcases with a library ladder for a little extra pizazz.

But, despite having these ideas, I just couldn’t seem to make it happen.

Finally, I had the good sense to call in the professionals over at Pimlico Interiors, a local Connecticut interior design company and shop.

I’m so glad I did!

Melissa Lindsay, a co-owner and principal at Pimlico fully got my vision and took it to the next level by adding a studio art space with shelves (not shown here) and suggesting we paint the back of the built ins charcoal black (Benjamin Moore Baby Seal) for added oomph.

We’re waiting for a few key pieces to come in, like the library ladder, TV and custom window seat cushions, but so far I”m loving how this room looks.
