Next Steps

I’m usually able to make interior design decisions for our home pretty quickly. I pride myself on this ability to know what I want design wise, no doubt a side benefit of immersing myself in inspiring images both off and online weekly, if not daily…

However, right now I’m a little stuck. The item that has me second and third guessing my options is the carpet runner for our front stair case (above). At first we considered leaving the stairs alone…but they’re quite slippery. There are additional benefits of having carpeted stair runners (aside from aesthetics) safety, warmth, and dirt catching are a few that immediately come to mind.

I absolutely loved the Stark runner that we had on our old front stairs (see below) and thought about repeating that again here (as I did with so many other interior elements of our old house) but the new stairs are much wider and even have a round curved bend where the old ones were a straight shot up and down. So not sure how that will impact the over all look…

Lauren Muse showed me a really great selection of samples, but the samples are only about a 12″ square, not always the easiest to imagine. From that I narrowed the choices down to these two and then turned to the internet and installation images to get a better sense. It’s a big ticket item, so I really want to make sure to get this one right. Here’s what it comes down to…

The Electric Company

First off, thanks so much for all the great feedback and kind comments on our new house

A lot of you have mentioned that you couldn’t believe how much was accomplished in only two months, and while it’s true, we did get a lot done, there’s still is quite a bit left to do here.

Incomplete rooms were  either creatively cropped or not photographed at all.

Which brings me to this post.

High on my decorating “to do” list is replacing all the outdoor lights here with new ones more in line with my own taste.

I love the lantern featured in this photo above, and quickly found myself fully engrossed and inspired by The Urban Electric Company’s clever site

Don’t you love when you can see a product in a beautiful interior, or exterior- as the case may be?

Check out all the inspiration I found below…

Our New Home: House Tour Part Two

Yesterday, our new home here in Connecticut was featured over on Domaine.

I was so excited that I went ahead and posted a rare afternoon “double” post…yup, I can’t play it cool to save my life.

Today’s post is a bit more of our house, starting and ending with our new kitchen…since it was that fated “one room challenge” that had me scrambling to get Nicole Cohen up here so quickly to photograph this room after we moved in.

The day that Nicole came up we must’ve taken about a zillion images, so of course there will be a lot more photos of my house in the weeks to come, including a few before and afters.

I’m thrilled with the way that these came out, it’s hard to believe we’ve only been living here for exactly two months!
