One Room Challenge: Week Three

It’s the third week of the One Room Challenge (here’s week one and week two) or as I like to keep telling myself, it’s the half way mark! I’m renovating the kitchen in the house that we’ll be moving into and just to add to the drama, our big move is happening right around the same time this challenge wraps…(The kitchen is actually one of several rooms being renovated, you can see progress on those via my Instagram account @zhush.)

The biggest news this week: the marble was installed! And, the cabinets were painted! Also, the carved legs on the center island were removed, making the island feel a lot more modern, and finally the glass doors were modernized as well.

Things to do in Manchester Vermont

Happy Columbus Day weekend and greetings from the Green Mountain state.

Today I thought I’d share a few of the photos I was inspired to capture during our visit to Hildene, the historic summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln in the town of Manchester, Vermont.

The classic architecture of this original gilded age estate, combined with the perfect fall weather and Vermont mountain scenery literally took my breath away.

We’ve been coming up to the Manchester area for years and somehow managed to miss this gem until yesterday.

If you’re ever in the southern Vermont area, I highly recommend this beautiful (and educational) venue.

The grounds alone are breathtaking and you can also take a tour inside this historic home.

One Room Challenge: Week 2

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge! If I had a subtitle for this post, it would be Demolition, Decisions and Disappointments. If you’re tuning in for the first time, here’s last week’s post on my chosen room, our soon-to-be new kitchen.

This week we made tremendous progress in the kitchen. The back splashes are all gone, the counter tops too. Then some quick decisions were made. Lauren found these great looking pulls and handles (image above) and now I just need to decide if I’m really going to go for the brass, so to speak.

I chose paint colors for the cabinets (between Benjamin Moore White and Benjamin Moore Dove White) and decided to go with gold old white.

And then for the walls, we went with my favorite, Farrow and Ball Elephant’s Breath, diluted with white by 50%.
