A Few Updates On Our Beach House Renovation

It’s been a while since I’ve shared any progress on our Rhode Island beach house renovation.

Reflecting back on this time last year, we couldn’t even go check in on the house…

Work pretty much came to a full stop.

Now we’re so thankful for great weather and the ability to head up there again!

Beach House Renovation

On the one hand, the house is now pretty much done – in the sense that we can comfortably stay there…

On the other hand, I’ve only just begun to “decorate.”

We’ve now reached my favorite part of the whole project – the art, accessories and all the details aka “zhushing.”

So, if the house looks a little bare and sterile, this is because I haven’t layered in all the finishing touches yet.

I have shared a few shots of the house here and there, mostly on Instagram stories…

There’s also this post on how we painted over marble counters and bath surrounds, if you’re curious.

But, this is pretty much the first full update I’ve done on the house here.

Even though the house isn’t fully ready for it’s “close up” – I did want to share all the progress we’ve made so far.

Including a few before photos.

As you can see, in the kitchen we built out the small center island, changed the counter tops to Quartz, switched the ceramic tile backsplash to glass tile and stripped and stained the floors a much lighter shade.

We painted most of the house white (including the kitchen) (specifically this shade of white-Benjamin Moore OC -151) and also the trim and baseboards.

We also switched out the cabinet hardware and faucets.

Finally, I’ll be adding bamboo shades to the windows – they’re currently on order.

In our bedroom, we stripped the wallpaper and went with this grayish grasscloth on the walls.

We also removed the ceiling fan and hung a light fixture there instead.

Then we replaced the curtains and shades with just simple white shades for now (for privacy.)

Although I would like to figure out a way to add some sheer drapes to soften up the windows a little.

If a lot of the furniture here looks familiar, it’s because you might recall seeing it in our former beach house renovation.

As for the bathrooms (and laundry room) in this house…

Long time readers know how how much I LOVE wallpaper.

I chose some of my latest favorites for this house.

One of the best updates/changes we made to the house was creating an extra entry into the dining area.

Opening up the wall here gave the whole first floor a more open feel to it and a much better flow.

These are all just some quick pics I took with my phone.

Once I get things a bit more styled, I’d love to get some real photos of the house taken.

I will say, taking these photos with my phone helps me to figure things out…

Like how to style the built in bookcases…

Clearly I need some objects here and there with a bit more visual heft.

This post turned out a lot longer than I had anticipated!

I’m sure I’ll have even more updates as the summer gets under way!

Hi! Looks beautiful already. Could you pass on the source of the blue gray abstract rug in the bedroom, please?

Hi, thanks – of course! It’s from Stanton carpet. Most flooring stores carry this line.
