30 Affordable Vintage Turkish Oushak Runners

Affordable vintage Turkish Oushak runners (specifically for my own home) have been on my mind a lot lately.

I’ve been on the hunt for one of these decorative rugs for a while now.

Last summer I purchased a runner for our beach house and loved how it instantly warmed up the whole room.

So, it would seem that a vintage Turkish Oushak runner would make for a perfect home purchase right now.

Read on to see why Turkish runners are a designer favorite.

I’ve been collecting images of these fabulous, traditional rugs in beautiful kitchens for years.

So, now I’m almost ready to pull the trigger on this purchase.

These vintage carpets come in an array of great colors and geometric designs.

It’s hard to pick a favorite Oushak runner rug, I love so many of them.

Let’s take a look at some of the kitchen rugs and area rugs which have been inspiring me so much lately.

VINTAGE TURKISH RUGS AND RUNNERS:

What is a Vintage Turkish Oushak rug?

Oushak rugs come from the small town of Oushak, which is just south of Instanbul, Turkey.

Authentic rugs and carpets tend to be woven on a wool foundation with a very short wool pile.

These floor rugs are distinctive in both pattern and color palette.

Oushak rugs have been greatly influenced by Persian rug designs.

Oushak rugs and carpets are typically designed with geometric shapes and a central medallion drawing, a smaller all-over medallion design or scattered sprays of vine scrolls and floral patterns throughout.

Today, Oushak rugs are highly desirable for both the unique design and beautiful colors they offer.

What is a Turkish Kilim Rug?

Just slightly different than a traditional Oushak antique rug, I thought I’d include the definition of these decorative rugs here as well.

As popular and as attractive as the Oushak, according to Wikipedia, Turkish Kilim rugs typically have a flat tapestry-woven surface and are traditionally produced in countries which were part of the former Persian Empire.

These countries include Iran, Azerbaijan, the Balkans and the Turkic countries of Central Asia.

Figuring out which vintage Oushak rug is right for your space.

The first step is of course measuring the area you’d like to place the runner in.

This will determine if you need to search for a long runner rug or a small runner.

You also need to consider the width as well, as these rugs tend to come in a myriad of sizes.

Now that you know the size of the rug you’re looking for, you’ll want to think about the color scheme as well as any pattern or motif preferences.

At first glance, many of these runners and rugs look very similar.

However, once you start to really look into various styles, you’ll see some are more traditional and some a bit more bohemian.

Once you decide if you’re looking for a bohemian rug or something a bit more classic in style you’ll be able to hone in on the specific runner which meets your needs.

Where to find Affordable Rugs and Vintage Turkish Oushak Runners?

After a lot of online searching, it seems the number one spot to find quality yet still affordable vintage Turkish rugs is Etsy.

Etsy has the biggest selection, best quality and affordable prices for good vintage rugs.

Below, I’ve rounded up all of my favorite runners and rugs from various Etsy vendors and sellers.

Many of these are at great prices and some even offer free shipping.

However, most, if not all of these rugs tend to be one of a kind.

Which makes sourcing the exact rug I was looking for both more interesting and more frustrating, depending on how I’m feeling that day.

Although most days I do think when it comes to home decor purchases, the best part is the thrill of the hunt, at least for me.

I almost forgot, here’s the runner in our beach house bathroom, it really does warm up this space (literally and figuratively) SO much!

In addition to authentic affordable vintage rugs, I also found quite a few “Turkish Inspired” runners (aka new rugs which look vintage.)

I’ve including these in my selection here today.

Been searching for an oushak or kilim runner for months and ran across your inspirational website! I realize this is an old post, but LOVE the runner shown in the picture with the light stained wood ceiling. Any chance you have the source for it? Would so appreciate any info you may have on it. Thank you

Very interested in viewing the vintage rug options, but unable to find a link to click on. I only see a circle spinning in the space where it appears the links should be.
