A Fresh New Twist on Modern Farmhouse Style in L.A.

Is the modern farmhouse design trend still relevant?

And if so…

What exactly is modern farmhouse style?

Today we’re going to get into what defines this popular interior design trend by touring this dramatic L.A remodel by designer Rob Diaz.

LOVE how the wide oak plank hardwood floors in the living room perfectly compliment the modern style Rose Corchia Calacatta marble fireplace here.

Natural materials and a neutral color scheme are key features in a true modern farmhouse interior.

The wood coffee table featured above is a personal favorite of mine.

Modern Farmhouse Style

Modern farmhouse style usually incorporates elements from both traditional farmhouse and modern design.

Think clean lines, glossy accents and neutral color palettes.

Yet it’s less rustic and more urban sophisticated than a traditional farmhouse will be.

You’ll often see contemporary design pieces like stainless steel appliances, soapstone countertops along with minimal architectural elements and flourishes.

Modern Farmhouse Kitchens

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, let’s take a look at this gorgeous California A frame.

This full home contemporary style fixer upper is such a great example of modern farmhouse style done right.

Natural light pours into this perfect modern farmhouse kitchen.

How fabulous is this kitchen?

Details include Zellige black tiles for the wall/backsplash with rift white oak cabinets and dark honed soapstone countertops.

I especially love this more streamlined approach to open shelving.

The two modern pendant lights over the kitchen island are the perfect fit in this minimal yet chic kitchen.

In fact, all of the industrial lighting throughout this modern home really helps to elevate the overall design elements.

The Primary Bedroom Suite

The primary bedroom suite is equally stunning.

Painted in Green Smoke by Farrow and Ball, it manages to be both cozy and yet modern, all at once.

I love how it’s the ceiling which is painted here – as it really adds to the overall drama and visual interest.

The color choice also works so beautifully with the natural textures in this space.

Sea foam green glass tiles keep everything looking so fresh in this modern bathroom.

While the natural wood floors create a perfect balance of texture and color here.

Additional Bedrooms

Love how the round jute rug creates and interesting focal point and grounds this minimalist bedroom while also adding a bit of texture.

The gray painted trim looks perfect against the white paint in this space.

A similar idea – paint your trim black.

The outdoor space is perfect for entertaining.

Features include an expansive patio for alfresco dining and a 50-foot pool.

Rob and his team incorporated over 500 plants to add lush texture and rustic country charm to the whole area.

Much like you would see with a more classic farmhouse style.

True country style yet with a modern twist.

No doubt his clients consider their backyard to be the perfect private oasis.

Hope you enjoyed this modern farmhouse remodel.

To me, this house is lovely but there’s nothing farmhouse about it. It just looks modern, without the glam.

There is nothing that strikes me particularly “farm housey” about it. It’s a nice modern home and that’s it. We are all too quick to put labels on things when none are needed IMO.
