Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black paint (or SW Tricorn Black) is truly one of the best black paint colors on the market.
I know you’ll definitely want to consider this one, here’s why.
Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black
Like I mentioned above, if you’re on the hunt for some beautiful black colors for your walls – or an accent wall, interior doors, kitchen cabinets, kitchen island, garage doors, (you get the picture – this paint is just so versatile!) Tricorn Black is such a great option.
So let’s get into why I think Tricorn Black is such a perfect black paint color.
Today I’ll break down why this color might be just what you’ve been searching for and I’ll also show you where we’ve personally used it here in our own home.
What is the Light Reflectance Value of Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black?
Tricorn Black has a light reflectance value of 2.4.
Otherwise known as an LRV of 2.4.
This simply means it’s a true black paint color.
As far as reflecting light (aka the light reflective value) it’s one of the truest blacks or blackest blacks in the color palette.
This is one of the reasons Tricorn Black is the most popular black paint colors on the market today.
What are the undertones of Tricorn Black?
Additionally, it’s worth noting, Tricorn Black is an absolute black, it has no blue undertones or brown undertones.
Actually, it has virtually no obvious undertones at all.
Making this color black a true neutral color.
Perfect to pair with a pure white if you’re looking to go with a high contrast color scheme in your home design.
A Great Choice For Your Home’s Exterior
For our home’s exterior we wanted a black front door in the darkest black.
I think a pure black looks best on the exterior of a home.
So, if you’re thinking about this blackest black hue for exterior use…
For us, Tricorn is the best black paint color...

If you’d like to see a full review of any of these other paint colors, let me know in the comments, as I’m always happy to do one!
We went through so many dark colors before landing on this bold color choice.
I’m now so partial to exterior doors in this shade of black, it’s my absolute favorite.
It’s truly a timeless color choice – also great for a trim color.
In fact, this turned out to be such a good choice for our door, we went with Tricorn Black for the shutters on our entire house as well.
Sample, Sample, Sample!
Ultimately you need to love the wall paint colors you choose for your own home and design style.
Which is why I can’t recommend trying it out as a sample in your home first.
Samplize non-damaging adhesive backing allows for viewing in multiple locations and in different lighting without marking up your walls!
Isn’t this such a great way to test out paint colors?
Perhaps this is so obvious, but even the surrounding light source from one room to another can differ and therefore change the look of any wall color.
Live with a few samples for a few days before making your final decision.
It’s a good idea to sample during different times of day, as we all know natural light can change dramatically.
Also, be sure to test the actual color in natural and artificial light too!
Personally, I think the best way to do this is with these large self stick samples.
Because you can easily move them around.
I know because I’ve done it.
Sherwin Williams Samplize peel and stick paint sample made with real paint.
No messy paint cans to deal with before you commit! Win/win!
If you’re at all curious, If you’re at all curious, you can find these stick paint samples here and try it out as a sample in your home first!
I’ve personally tested these out on our walls for accuracy and they are one hundred percent spot o
Look how brilliant these Samplize adhesive wall paint samples are.
