Teenage bedroom ideas for small rooms

My youngest child’s room is finally done!

Well, almost – we’re still waiting on this mirror and a few small storage shelves.

I love the way this room came out.

Thanks to the genius design work of Fiona Leonard, we finally found a solution to this room’s weird layout.

Below is a glimpse of the way it looked “before”…

This is the before.

Such a cute room, but a little juvenile for a high school student.

However, we did keep a lot of the main elements here.

Here’s what stayed the same:

The carpet, which is by Stark.

Also, we kept the “glow in the dark” starry wallpaper on the ceiling, from Ralph Lauren Home.

And the walls stayed the original color, Benjamin Moore Sea Salt.

Small and Awkward or Odd Spaces

As I mentioned, this was a weird room to tackle.

I usually like to do my kids’ teen rooms on my own, along with a lot of input from my son or daughter…but the layout of this room was out of my element.

What do I mean by this?

The way the room was designed, with three closets, the entrance door, the bathroom door and two windows – made figuring out a furniture layout extremely difficult.

I had made it work with my son’s original twin size bed, but now that he’s taller than me, a full size bed was in order.

We also needed to make sure there was room for a desk and chair or at least a study space, as well as a dresser and a bit of storage space.

I tried a few ideas on paper and nothing looked right.

Then I saw an Instagram story Fiona did on a teenage boy’s room.

This room, had a different layout than my son’s, but I immediately knew some variation of this cool, wooden, modern built in bed situation would work great in my son’s room.

Minutes later I was direct messaging with Fiona…

It’s worth mentioning here this room would work great for a girl bedroom too.

Both my daughters agreed they LOVE this room and they’re a bit jealous.

Actually every teen loves this room!

But, if you’re looking for a few more teen girl room ideas, check out my older daughter’s bedroom reveal.
