So, I figured we can all use a little comfort food right now.
I made this chocolate chip banana bread the other night and put in on my Instagram stories.
Afterwards, a few people asked for the recipe, so here it is!
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
I first got the recipe for this old fashioned chocolate chip banana bread from another mom in my oldest child’s nursery school class.
She would make this for playdates.
It was SO good, I had to have the recipe.
All these years later, this great recipe is still my favorite.
I’ve seen other recipes which call for brown sugar and/or baking powder in the dry ingredients…
Those are good – but honestly, this one is GREAT!
The Best Banana Bread Ever
I tend to lean into baking when I’m feeling a little anxious.
My idea of comfort food is a warm, “fresh from the oven” banana bread with mini chocolate chips.
Crucial to this recipe are the mini dark chocolate chips.
I’ve tried making it with regular size chocolate chips, but they tend to all sort of sink to the bottom of the loaf pan.
Which, of course, becomes the top of the bread when you serve it.
Not the same as the mini chips which are so little they stay afloat while baking.
This leads to a better chip ratio in the bread…and makes this banana chocolate chip bread extra special.
Ingredients
- 2 overripe bananas
- ⅓ cup melted butter (preferably salted – but unsalted butter is fine too)
- ½ cup of white sugar
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large pinch of Kosher salt or a teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a loaf pan (we use butter for this but you can also use parchment paper.)
- In a large mixing bowl, add the large bananas and mash them until the mashed bananas become smooth.
- Add in the melted butter until well combined.
- Add the sugar, beaten egg, vanilla extract, and other dry ingredients: baking soda, salt, flour and cinnamon and mix until the batter is pretty smooth.
- Add in the mini chocolate chips and then pour the batter into your greased, prepared loaf pan.
- Top with a few extra chocolate chips.
- Bake banana bread for approximately 50 minutes to an hour baking time, or until a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool to room temperature for at least 10-15 minutes.
- Slice it up and enjoy the perfect banana bread!
- Rate this easy recipe, and pin it for later:) Thanks!
F.A.Q.S
Can you store this for later?
Yes! Of course, we just wrap up in plastic wrap or an airtight container and leave it on the counter.
What kind of pan should I use?
We use a metal loaf pan like this. It’s a basic 5-inch loaf pan.
The kind you would use for most quick breads. You could also use mini loaf pans.
Hope you enjoy this family loved recipe!
We obviously consider it the best banana bread recipe!
If you make it – let me know.
