Sherwin Williams Alabaster Paint Color Review: Why So Many People Love This Popular Color

Sherwin Williams Alabaster paint ( or SW Alabaster) is another beautiful wall color, one you’ll definitely want to consider.

This blog post first appeared back in 2022, but I’ve updated it substantially as it’s now one of my favorite colors to use!

Sherwin Williams Alabaster White is another great choice if you’re in the market for a soft white paint color.

Warm white and neutral paint colors have been on my mind lately.

We’re currently experimenting with a few different trim color decisions and living room choices.

In addition we’re also contemplating changing the color of our kitchen cabinets and dining room paint colors for our Florida vacation home.

Since this is all taking place long distance, writing these paint color reviews has been really helpful for me!

Hopefully for you too!

Like I mentioned above, I’ve been drawn more to warmer whites lately and less stark ones.

Leaning away from the gray undertone of a bright white range and more to the yellow undertone of a wall color like Sherwin Williams Alabaster SW.

What are the undertones of Alabaster SW 7008?

Does this paint color have yellow undertones?

Alabaster actually has a beige undertone.

Alabaster has a beige undertone.

It’s this neutral quality which makes this color such a great option.

If you’re looking for a nice, warm color – this is a really good choice.

This makes it a perfect choice if you’re looking for a cream color.

I would also say the warm undertones of Alabaster place it firmly in the neutral color scheme.

There’s a reason Alabaster is one of the top popular paint colors year after year.

It’s so easy to work with this versatile color.

It’s one of the best neutrals out there when it comes to complimenting interior decor, furniture and art.

What is the lrv of Alabaster?

The lrv (Light Reflectance Value ) of Sherwin Williams Alabaster is 82.

Alabaster has a higher lrv, (out of 100) but this simply means this warm white paint color will absorb less light and reflect more light back into a room.

So, if you’re looking to add a bit of warmth to your walls, this is color just might be the right choice for you.

I happen to love the warmth of Alabaster and think it would make for an excellent choice if you’re looking for a warmer white with a neutral base.

Sample, Sample, Sample!

Ultimately you need to love the wall paint colors you choose for your own home.

Which is why I can’t recommend trying it out as a sample in your home first.

Samplize non-damaging adhesive backing allows for viewing in multiple locations and in different lighting without marking up your walls!

Isn’t this such a brilliant way to test out paint colors?

Perhaps this is so obvious, but even the surrounding natural light and artificial lighting conditions from one room to another can differ and therefore change the look of any color.

Live with a few samples for a few days before making your final decision.

It’s a good idea to sample during different times of day.

Also, be sure to test the color in natural and artificial light too!

Personally, I think the best way to do this is with these large self stick paint samples.

Because you can easily move them around.

I know because I’ve done it.

No messy paint cans to deal with before you commit! Win/win!

If you’re at all curious, you can find them here and try it out as a sample in your home first!

I’ve personally tested these out on our walls for accuracy and they are one hundred percent spot on.

One more thing, a recent email question I received was regarding the relevance of the Sherwin Williams color of the year.

Basically, in a nutshell – yes alabaster was the sherwin-williams 2016 color of the year, but this doesn’t mean it’s out of style in 2024!

If you love it, it’s your house! Go with it!

The rest is just marketing and industry news!

Any other questions, please shoot me an email or leave it in the comments below.

I’ll be happy to answer them.

Even better, email a picture of it – I’d love to see it.

  1. We moved last fall and painted the entire house (which had been mostly dark reds and black) Alabaster — inside and out. We used SW Pure White for all the trim. It is so light and bright, but warm at the same time. We love it.
