The Best Paint Colors For Light Wood Floors

What are the best paint colors for light wood floors?

Since we already addressed the wall paint colors which go best with dark wood floors, it seems only fitting to discuss the best paint colors for light hardwood floors here today.

It’s no secret, a fresh coat of paint can do a lot to transform a space.

Today we’re going to take a lot of the guess work out of this popular question – what are the best wall colors for light floors?

The Best Wall Color Combinations For Light Wood Flooring

The first thing to consider is the tone and interior design style you want to set for the space.

Do you prefer a more modern look, a rustic atmosphere, or a more, classic, traditional aesthetic?

Other things to consider is the amount of artificial light, is there a lot of natural light?

Once you answer these basic questions, you can easily nail down a great color scheme and find just the right color to work with your light hardwood flooring.

WHITE WALLS

You don’t need to consult a color wheel or stress out in order to come up with the right paint colors.

When working with a light floor color, you don’t need to necessarily shy away from white walls.

As long as the white paint you’re choosing has some warm undertones to it, white walls and light floors can look really beautiful together.

In fact, I love to see a white oak floor color with light walls.

Above is an example from our Rhode Island beach house.

The wall color here is Benjamin Moore OC-151.

OC-151 is a warm white paint and SO versatile and easy to work with.

This is the entry way to the house, it’s an open concept plan.

We continued with this exact color palette through out the living room and entire first floor.

It created the perfect back drop for the neutral colors we chose for the furnishings here.

Other great white paint colors which work well with light floors are:

COOL COLORS

For something a little different, you don’t need to limit yourself to just a warm color.

In fact, paints with cool undertones can look great with light colors, especially when it comes to your floors.

In our former home in New York, we chose a light blue paint to compliment the gray floors.

Cool wall colors can be very soothing when done right.

Calming blue and blue gray shades can bring contrast to the light wood floors.

Final Thoughts On the best paint colors to use with light wood floors.

When you’re looking for the right wall color, start by determining what vibe you want to create in your space.

If you’re going for a more neutral look, a lighter color like greige or beige will work best.

To make more of a statement, paint your walls with a cool color like pink, light green, or liven up the neutrality of light wood floors.

Sample, Sample, Sample!

Ultimately you need to love the wall paint colors you choose for your house…

Which is why I can’t recommend trying it out as a sample in your home first.

Perhaps this is so obvious, but even the surrounding natural light from one room to another can differ and therefore change the look of any color.

Live with a few samples for a few days before making your final decision.

Be sure to test the color in natural and artificial light too!

The best way to do this is with these Samplize peel and stick paint samples.

Samplize non-damaging adhesive backing allows for viewing in multiple locations and in different lighting without marking up your walls!

No messy paint cans to deal with before you commit! Win/win!

If you’re at all curious, you can find them here and try it out as a sample in your home first!

I’ve personally tested these out on our walls for accuracy and they are one hundred percent spot on.
