Benjamin Moore White OC-151
Based on the popularity of my past few paint posts, I’m back today with this one.
Today I’m focusing on a more recent favorite white paint of mine to use, Benjamin Moore White OC-151.
Just like White Dove, we use this beautiful white paint color SO much and in SO many places.
Above you can see how this looks on our kitchen cabinets.
When we first started to renovate our current kitchen, I thought for sure we were going to go with White Dove, just like we had (and loved) in our former New York home.
However, once we got the paint sample up on the actual cabinets and compared it OC-151 white, it was pretty eye opening.
You can see this comparison in the image below.
The first time we used this beautiful white paint color –
As I mentioned above, having our kitchen cabinets painted in this chic white color was our first time using OC-151.
The fact that we chose this over our favorite white paint, Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, was a surprise.
However, as you can see in the photo above, for whatever reason, guessing the lighting in our current kitchen, the white on the bottom is more of a “true white” in terms of what we looking for.
Second time with this white paint choice-
Our next experience with this pretty white paint in on our third floor. It’s a finished attic with a lot of natural light.
After testing out a few options, we fell in love with this color.
It gives us the light, fresh look we were aiming for in this space.
Because it’s an attic, the ceilings are at steep angles, having the walls and ceiling all match made it feel very open and airy.

Third time, now we’re pretty committed to it!
Having now used this lovely white in our kitchen and on our third floor finished attic, we knew we wanted to try it out again in the beach house we were renovating last year.
However, just to be safe, I tested it against Benjamin Moore Sea Pearl, you can see the side by side below.
I heard Sea Pearl was a great white paint color for coastal homes, but after viewing the side by side, I knew it wasn’t what we were looking for.
Once the paint started going up – we knew we loved it.
Good thing, because we committed to painting the majority of this house in OC -151.

Finally, our most recent use of OC-151
Now that we have complete confidence with this paint color choice – opting to use it again in our current beach house renovation was a quick and easy decision.
Renovations can often lead to analysis paralysis, so having choices like this one, where you feel confident in your decision is always a good thing.
Below are a few photos of the new beach house with this color already up.
It’s a beautiful soft white which looks very clean and bright in all different rooms and light sources.

By now you can tell how much I love to use this beautiful white paint color.
Ultimately you need to love it.
Hopefully, all these different images will help you to get a better sense of this paint color.
I can’t recommend trying it out as a sample in your home first enough.
Maybe this seems so obvious, but even the surrounding light from one room to another can differ.
Live with a few samples for a few days before making your decision. Test it in natural and artificial light too!
Another GREAT thought: I haven’t personally tried these, but the idea of large self sticking paint samples sounds brilliant!

How many shades of white do people need to convince themselves that they have the perfect white. Stop being such a follower and come up with ur own version of color. Express urself. Stop taking the safe road. Its boring and stale no matter how u try to convince others its still white. BORRING
A question and a comment. The question, is this white also just called White in the premixed palette? And the comment. I think the OC stands for Off white colors.
Yes, it’s called white. I was told it stands for Original Color and HC is historical color, but I could be wrong?
Thanks so much for your wonderful blog and especially the posts about your beach house. I assume you used this white paint color on both walls and trim? Just changing the type of paint… (semi gloss for trim, flat for walls?)

Benjamin Moore Dew380 white paint is also perfect! I am particular, and this worked wonderfully for my kitchen and guest bath cabinets. I actually tried the samples of white colors you suggested, and took your advice before making a final decision. Please let me know what you think of this color.

Good morning, Sue. You cannot imagine how timely this post was. I have just ordered 5 Benjamin Moore samples from Samplize to help me finalize my decision for painting my kitchen cabinets. I have been uncharacteristically indecisive about this and truly in need of larger swatches to help me reach a decision. Thanks!

Would love to hear more about how you selected a kitchen cabinet painter and process they used.
We used a designer to help us with this and she found the painter. If I had to guess, based on other projects we worked on I ‘m pretty sure the cabinets were “sprayed” as opposed to brush technique. Sorry I can’t be more helpful here!
