The Best Flooring Options for a Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom floors should be waterproof, durable, and of course, flow with the aesthetic of your bathroom.

Porcelain and ceramic tile might be the most popular bathroom floor choice, but other types of flooring, like stone tiles, could be the best option for your space.

If you’re unsure which type of flooring is the right fit for your bathroom remodel, here’s a breakdown of the best bathroom flooring.

Bathroom Floor tile: Ceramic or porcelain tile

These are the two most common picks for bathroom tile.

Ceramic tiles and porcelain tiles are excellent, classic options for any bathroom.

Tile is resilient, waterproof, and available in just about every size, shape, texture, and color imaginable, making your design options endless.

What’s the Difference?

Porcelain and ceramic are similar, but porcelain is made from more refined clay and fired at a higher temperature, making it slightly more sturdy and less porous.

Porcelain tiles tend to absorb less water than ceramic tiles; however, both can handle pools or puddles of water in a shower or on the bathroom floor.

Porcelain and ceramic are also more cost-effective and can mimic the look of more expensive materials like natural stone or wood.

Either one is a good option for your bathroom floor.

Laminate Flooring

If you like the look of hardwood flooring, you may be surprised to learn laminate flooring material might be the best choice for bathroom flooring over solid hardwood.

Laminate flooring is cost-effective and the vinyl planks are generally easy to install for anyone doing a DIY bathroom remodel.

Just be sure to soak up any moisture right away to keep it looking brand new.

Unlike solid wood floors, with laminate flooring you don’t need to worry about water damage.

Today these come in a variety of colors and look just like real hardwood floors- making these such a great choice.

Making this a good idea, if you like the look of wood but you’re worried about water resistance.

Natural Stone Tile

Stone flooring tiles exude luxury and are known for creating a high-end look.

Natural stone options like granite, marble, travertine, and limestone are resilient, waterproof, and come in various naturally-occurring colors and patterns.

The natural look of the tiles helps create a spa-like oasis while you can experiment with planks or mosaics to create a unique design.

Keep in mind that while natural stone tiles provide undeniable opulence, they do come at a cost.

Stone is one of the most pricey bathroom flooring options available.

It’s a natural material, meaning resources are limited, accounting for the additional cost.

Additionally, you may have to reseal your natural stone tiles every few years to maintain the finish and prevent dirt, debris, or moisture damage.

The Best Flooring Options for Small Bathrooms

Consider the size and square foot of your space when selecting a new bathroom floor.

For example, natural stone tile could be feasible if you have a small bathroom since there is not much floor space compared to a larger bathroom, while a patterned ceramic tile could make your area look bigger.

Smaller tiles like penny tiles are a classic and will always be a good choice for your flooring.

CONCLUSION

Hopefully you have some ideas now on what will be the best type of tile or flooring option for your renovation project.
