Entryway ideas and decorating tips for your foyer, let’s get into it…
Our front entrance hall gets such pretty natural light.
So, I often post a quick Instagram pic as I’m walking through.
Whenever I do, I always get questions about our entryway decor.
So, today I thought I’d address some of the questions I get regarding entryway ideas and decorating tips.
Because this is the first glimpse of your home, it makes sense to give it some extra thought.
Elegant Entryway Ideas and Decorating Tips
Once inside your home’s front door, regardless if it’s a large front entryway or small space – your home’s front entryway is your chance to make a great first impression.
As the first thing visitors see, you have an opportunity to set the tone for the rest of your home – as far as style and design goes.
Our foyer opens right up to our living room and dining room.
As a result, the design and color scheme of these rooms needs to have a cohesive look.
This is an important thing to consider when designing a beautiful entryway.
Interior designers recommend you really asses your home’s front entrance layout and floor space first.
It’s a good idea to think about the other spaces in your house.
Give attention to which ones you may or may not be able to see from your home’s entryway space.
Favorite Entryway Ideas and Decorating Tips
Whether it’s a beautiful bench or a slim console table, you can maximize your entry’s full design and functionality just by adding a few key design elements.
Entryway table
As the first space people see, your entrance area is often the perfect place for a small table of some sort.
This piece of furniture can provide a beautiful focal point.
Because it’s the first impression of your home, an entry table is also a great place for a table lamp and possible floral arrangements.
Both of these items always look so warm and welcoming.
If your front door is the door you utilize the most, a table can also create a handy “drop zone” for your keys, mail and other small items on a daily basis.
In our home, we use the garage door as a family the most, the front door is mainly for our guests.
As far as extra storage for coats and boots, wall hooks and cute baskets – these call all be found in our mud room.
An Entryway Rug
For our entrance we elected to go with a zebra faux hyde run in lieu of a more traditional rectangle area rug.
Since our space is not symmetrical, having an organic shape like this on the floor was the perfect solution.
It helped to define the whole area and just made more sense for the space overall.
Also, I love the look of a zebra print – it’s a great way to incorporate a little eclectic style to the space as well.
There’s a wide variety of statement rugs you can choose from if you like this type of look.
Some Beautiful Wall Art
When it comes to art in your own home, think about your personal taste and style.
In our home, In lieu of family photos I opted for these fun silhouettes of my kids.
These silhouettes are pretty much my favorite things.
The best part is they add a fun pop of color to the our our mostly neutral decor.
Light Fixtures For Your Front Entryway
You might want to consider a flushmount light fixture if you have a small hallway or limited space.
This post has even more great flushmount lighting options, basically all of my top picks.
Our former beach house (seen above) is a great example of how to create an inviting atmosphere within smaller entryways.
Since we have double height ceilings in our current home, we went with a statement piece wrought iron chandelier in the entry.
If you have enough space, I think a simple lantern or pendant light can also be a great choice.
Consider a seating area
Even if you have a smaller space, you might want to consider adding a chair or an entryway bench.
Having a place to put on or take off your shoes is one of my favorite functional entryway ideas.
Entryway Decor Ideas and Decorating Tips Conclusion
At the end of the day, the best entryway design is one which suits your home’s needs and creates a warm welcome for you and your guests.

Thanks so much!
These are great ideas for a larger sized foyer. I have a very small entrance and I’m stumped as to how to make it look inviting. When you walk in you are facing my stairs to the second floor, I own a 2 family home and live on the second floor. At the bottom of stairs the measurement is 4’-7” x 3’ 4”. The door opens into the entrance and there is a space that is 19”D between the door and the first step. At the top if the stairs the measurement is 3’ x 3’-8”. It would be great if you could share advice on how to style an entryway like this? Thanks so much!
Thanks, I’ll give it some thought. But off the top of my head I’d recommend a shelf (in lieu of a table) with a basket under it and a mirror on the wall.
