Design Ideas For A Narrow Hallway

What are some helpful design ideas for my long and narrow hallway?

Today we’re going to discuss a few ways to make a dark, small hall appear larger.

Design Ideas for A Long Narrow Hallway

Did you know that with the right design ideas, you can make a long narrow hallway in your apartment or house appear wider?

Perhaps you have tried out different ideas in the past, such as painting, rearranging the furniture, and adding rugs to make the long hallway appear cozy, without success.

Luckily, there’s several tricks and design ideas you can use to turn a narrow hallway into the most stylish and sophisticated area of your home.

You check them all out below.

Light up the hallway

How is the lighting situation in your hallway?

If you want to brighten up a narrow hallway (or any narrow space in general) we recommend you allow as much natural light as possible to flow into the space.

If there are windows in the hallway that you always keep closed, be sure to open them up and allow fresh air and light to flood the hallway.

In case the hallway has no access to natural light, think about adding a new light fixture or a large mirror.

Good lighting can make all the difference and this can be anything form statement chandeliers to table lamps over a console table and/or wall sconces.

Not only will your hallway appear brighter (and bigger) but it’s also a great way to add some visual interest with a beautiful focal point.

A well-lit hallway will make the space feel inviting and more open compared to a gloomy, dark hallway.

If you have the wall space, adding a mirror in your hallway is also one of the easiest ways to make almost any small space appear larger.

Create an art gallery

Another easy way to improve your small hallway or narrow corridor is by displaying oversized wall décor.

This can be either wall art or wall hangings.

However, do not go over board with too much art along the corridor as this may make the hallway feel closed in and cluttered.

One unique piece of art will do the trick, the perfect place for this varies, but the end of the hallway is usually a great option.

Also, be sure not to hang your art too high on the wall.

We recommend placing it at eye level and in a wide portrait form.

This will make a big impact and in turn, make the hallway seem wider.

This holds true even if you have very high ceilings.

Work With Wall Paint

Another creative way of decorating a narrow hallway is by using various color schemes in a lighter color wall paint to create a more open feeling.

It’s a good idea to go light and bright with your paint choices if you want a dark space to appear larger.

Paint can make a huge difference and it’s often the easiest way to achieve a gorgeous hallway.

Painting your hallway is also probably the most practical solution.

As long as your hallway walls are brighter than the ceiling, the narrow hallway will feel spacious.
