Benjamin Moore’s Cumulus Cloud is SUCH a great wall color, and the subject of today’s post.
We’ve gotten beautiful results with this neutral color and I think you will too!
This post was first published in 2020, but we’ve gone back and updated a lot of the info for you today!
Cumulus Cloud on the walls of our upstairs landing area – the perfect introduction to this upstairs area.
Benjamin Moore Cumulus Cloud
Back today with another favorite paint color to review.
Benjamin Moore Cumulus Cloud is a beautiful light taupe paint color we all love!
We have this great looking wall color in our upstairs sitting area.
I don’t know what to call this open space – I guess it’s sort of an upstairs landing.
If you’re looking for a light gray paint which goes with and compliments almost every decor style, look no further.
In the interior design world this is considered to be a neutral gray color.
I like to think of it as a warm neutral.
This space (above) connects with our upstairs center hallway.
Because it connects, it was important that this shade worked with the other surrounding walls in the adjacent living areas.
And, it does! It goes great with the Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee which we chose for the adjacent hallway’s walls.
Making Cumulus Cloud a great color choice is you have open concept spaces.
Cumulus Cloud: A beautiful paint color choice for any room in your house.
Above is another view of this living room space.
We also considered both Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray and Sherwin William’s Gossamer Veil for this room.
We (obviously) ultimately chose Cumulus Cloud because it looks just a bit softer, a bit brighter and it made the space seem more inviting.
Now that we have the fresh look of this paint color up in this area, I can’t imagine it looking any other way!
No regrets at all!
There’s a reason this color is a top choice for interior designers and decorators.
However, if you’re looking for something a bit whiter and brighter, you might want to check out this post on another great color all the design professionals love – Benjamin Moore’s Calm (you can see how this looks on the walls in our family room.)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is Cumulus Cloud part of the Benjamin Moore Aura paint line?
Yes, I did a little digging around the internet and can confirm this color does come with this cutting-edge technology.
And, this regal paint is a great product.
Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint is a premium paint product known for its latest technology and color rub-off resistance.
One of the main benefits of using Aura paint is its superior great depth of color and color vitality, which means the paint will maintain its’ vibrant color even after years of exposure to sunlight, humidity and wear and tear.
Another advantage is its excellent coverage, which allows for a single coat to provide a uniform finish which will save you time and money.
Aura paint also has a low odor, making it a safer and more comfortable option for indoor use and a wide variety of surfaces.
What finish should we use on our walls?
This really depends on a lot of different factors…
Are the rooms in low-traffic areas? Due to high-traffic areas, are you looking for an easy-to-clean surface?
Are your walls considered to be less-than-perfect surfaces?
Then maybe you need the slight sheen of eggshell.
I can say the most popular finish for the average interior paint job, is a simple flat paint finish.
The look of a flat coating is also the easiest to live with.
How much paint will I need?
The amount of wall paint will depend on a rough estimate of the square feet you’re looking to paint and how many coats of paint you’ll think you need.
Once you know the actual amount of wall area, your hardware store or local retailer can help you with your precise paint needs as far as the number of gallons, etc.
What is the light reflectance value (LVR) of this color?
It’s roughly 54, making this a medium to slightly dark shade.
Additional Information
Ultimately you need to love the wall paint colors you choose for your house
Which is why I can’t recommend trying it out as a sample in your home first.
Perhaps this is so obvious, but even the surrounding natural light from one room to another can differ and therefore change the look of any color.
Live with a few samples for a few days before making your final decision.
Be sure to test the color in natural and artificial light too!
Also, I think this is the best way to test out a paint color – get a large these large self sticking paint chip samples.
This sounds so great!
No messy paint cans to deal with before you commit! Win/win!
If you’re at all curious, you can find them here and try it out as a sample in your home first!
I’ve personally tested these out on our walls for accuracy and they are one hundred percent post on.

If you do end up using Cumulus Cloud in your home, let me know!
Even better, send me a photo – I’d love to see it.
I know for sure this lovely taupe neutral works great for bedrooms, dining rooms, living rooms and bathrooms too!
I tend to talk mostly about the time-honored tradition of Benjamin Moore paint a lot in general, simply because that’s what we use on our own interior walls!
Here’s another view of this paint color on the walls of our home, this shows how nicely it works with the dark wood floors.
Benjamin Moore Cumulus Cloud is also known as 1550.
It’s part of the classic color collection by Benjamin Moore.
I always like to know the paint color numbers just to insure I’m getting the right paint at the paint store.
Because sometimes the names alone can be a bit tricky…
For instance, Martha Stewart has a paint color with the same name in her line…but it’s a light blue!
Also, our local hardware store prefers we have both name and numbers.
If you’re considering doing this paint job yourself, I’ve been told this set, has everything you need in it.

Through the years of picking paint colors for our home, I’ve become sort of OCD about them – my Pinterest board certainly supports this statement.
I’ve created a whole color inspiration Pinterest board with all my favorites.
I also wrote a similar paint color review on Benjamin Moore White Dove as well.
You might also want to consider Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray.
Here I discuss why Edgecomb Gray is a great greige or warm gray paint color to lighten and brighten a dark hallway or room – I’ve seen this color in a dining room and it’s perfection!

I am also wondering what color to choose for the walls at home. I’m doing a renovation and it’s a good time to choose such colors. The problem is whether to make all the walls the same color or have different ones. The white ones are nice, but won’t the meringue be too white – when I paint everything in these colors.
